LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy
Dr. Sample provides affirming psychotherapy for LGBTQ+ adults and couples in a respectful, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment. Therapy offers an opportunity to explore personal experiences, strengthen relationships, and address concerns that may affect emotional well-being.
Your identity, relationships, and goals are unique. Therapy is collaborative and individualized, with attention to your experiences, strengths, and the changes you would like to make in your life.
What Can LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy Help With?
Therapy may provide support for concerns such as:
Exploring sexual orientation, gender identity, or aspects of identity
Coming out and decisions about sharing your identity with others
Anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional well-being
Relationship concerns and communication difficulties
Family dynamics, acceptance, and boundaries
Experiences of discrimination, rejection, or minority stress
Self-esteem, self-understanding, and personal growth
Navigating life transitions and building supportive relationships
You do not need to be in crisis or have a specific concern to benefit from therapy. You may simply want a space where you can explore your experiences openly and work toward greater self-understanding.
An Affirming, Collaborative Approach
I strive to provide care that respects each person's identity, experiences, relationships, and values. Therapy is grounded in trust, compassion, respect, and collaboration.
Treatment may incorporate evidence-informed approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. Sessions may focus on coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and developing responses that support your well-being.
The goal is not to change who you are, but to support your mental health and help you work toward the life and relationships you want.
Therapy for Individuals and Couples
Individual therapy can provide space to explore identity, manage stress, address anxiety or depression, and develop greater self-understanding.
Couples therapy can help partners improve communication, understand recurring relationship patterns, navigate differences, and strengthen their connection. LGBTQ+ couples may also wish to explore concerns related to family acceptance, identity, or experiences outside the relationship.
Telehealth Therapy in Illinois and California
Therapy is provided through secure telehealth for eligible adults and couples located in Illinois and California, subject to applicable professional and legal requirements.
Telepsychology may also be available to eligible clients in participating PSYPACT jurisdictions, subject to applicable authorization and requirements.
